HYDERABAD: The TRS government is toying with the idea of taking over the premier Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT).

Government sources said that the proposal is being actively considered, but formal discussions would be initiated after the admission season is over.

One of the important factors behind this is said to be control of the institution by people from Andhra Pradesh, more specifically, Telugu Desam Union minister Y.S. Chowdary.

The institution is run by a trust, formed under the Societies Act, but numerous allegations of management quota seats being sold at high prices have been cropping up.

Staff of the CBIT and the MGIT are in favour of the government taking over the institution. Sources also said the proposal is being carried forward by irrigation minister T. Harish Rao.
