Asus Zenfone 2 can run Microsoft Windows 7
XDA Senior Member ‘ycavan’ managed to install Windows 7 on an Asus Zenfone
Modification to the original firmware/operating system on a smartphone is not new. Rooting and flashing ROMs has been around for years and XDA Forums has been catering to developers from all around the world for the tweaking. In a new move, a developer and senior XDA member by the name of ‘ycavan’ has managed a big breakthrough. He has finally go Microsoft Windows 7 running on Asus’ Zenfone 2, which features an Intel processor.
Though the installation of Windows 7 is not as easy as it is on a laptop or a desktop PC, the operating system runs as good as native speed on the smartphone—thanks to the Atom Intel processor.
The procedure to install Windows 7 on the Asus Zenfone is pretty complex. It involves unlocking the bootloader, rooting the phone, flashing a particular kernel, partitioning the SD card and running a host of terminal commands. Finally Windows is installed and you are set to go. It justifies the means for enthusiasts longing for a desktop OS on a handheld device.
Ycavan goes ahead to mention that Windows 8 and Windows 10 is also possible and he shall attempt them after he has finalized with Windows 7. The Windows 7 installation runs pretty smoothly on the Zenfone 2 and he shall attempt Windows 8 and 10 next.
