Kannur: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will call a meeting of higher officials including Kannur District Collector P Bala Kiran to discuss the construction of the Greenfield road on Monday.

The proposed road aims at providing smooth transport between Kannur International Airport coming up at Moorkhanparamba near Mattannur and the district headquarters at Kannur.

The meeting will discuss various issues regarding the construction of the road including the survey, land acquisition and the compensation package for landowners.

The Rs 600-crore project, proposed from Thazhe Chovva in Kannur city to Moorkhanparamba, has been facing staunch opposition from landowners from the early stage of the process.

The survey for the road failed to get completed due to protests from the people.  Meanwhile, the work of the airport is progressing at Mattannur.

The signal tower has been started and the authorities are planning to develop the connecting roads to the airport at the same pace as the airport work.

The Kannur Airport authorities are planning to conduct the trial landing by December.
