Kannur University to present 112 trophies worth Rs 7 lakh

The trophies will also help the colleges and the university in the accreditation process

Kannur: The Kannur University will hereafter  award  the Vice- Chancellor’s trophy to the winners and runners-up of all championships.  

Vice-Chancellor Dr M.K. Abdul Khader will distribute a  total of 112 trophies worth Rs 7 lakh to the winners of  championships held in the university during the last academic year on July 14.

Till last year, trophies were given away only for    football, volleyball (Pariyaram Medical College- sponsored) and chess championships. The overall champions were awarded Jimmy George trophy  from 1999.  

Kannur University School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences director Dr P.T. Joseph said, “we have been receiving complaints  that  the absence of trophies was  discouraging  the  students. Also, the colleges would feel proud to display the trophies,” he said.

The trophies will also help the colleges and the university in the accreditation process.  The university is also planning to construct a giant shelf for displaying the trophies.

Sree Narayana College, Kannur,  will be the first college to receive the VC’ trophy for overall champion.  It will also get 14 trophies for overall championship in various events and seven runners-up trophies.
