Suit-iful selfie trend
The latest trend to hop onto the selfie bandwagon is the #suitfie

The latest entrant in the selfie-ish world is here, with the attention shifting from the lady-like pouts and duckfaces to impeccably dressed men instead, posing elegantly for that perfect #suitfie. Well-dressed men across the world are taking pictures of themselves in their dapper suits and sharing them on social networking sites with this brand new hashtag.
Although there are no hard and fast rules that make a perfect suitfie, the main difference between suitfies and selfies is that while clicking the former, the person’s face is purposefully kept out of the frame so that all eyes are on the sharp suit. We speak to models, stylists and hot men in the city about this raging trend, and the timeless appeal of a well-tailored suit.
For model Karan Buddhiraj, a well-fitting suit is to men what a perfect LBD is to ladies. He says, “A well-fitted suit is the outcome of copious research and rigorous brainstorming in picking the right fabric, colour and suitable cut complementing your body type.”
Karan further adds, “It is almost like buying a car or a motorbike involving multiple store visits, strong decision making and the accompaniment of an experienced friend. So, the trend of suitfies is a good way of showing off your style and elegance and garnering some female attention at the same time.” A proper fitting suit flatters the body by contouring its natural lines, believes stylist Nitya Sharma. Giving a thumbs up to the trend, Nitya says, “Employing a good tailor who can work contemporary designs into a good fit can go a long way in getting the perfect suit matching an occasion. Style, colour and fabric play an important role in grabbing eyeballs. While there is nothing like a plain, well-finished black suit that is often worn to formal occasions and official meetings, tinted charcoal or navy blue are generally safer options for cocktail parties and wine-and-cheese events. Plum, berry and wine tones can have a rich appeal too, depending on the wearer’s personality.”
Not everybody is open to embracing this new trend, however. “After selfies, belfies, felfies, washroom selfies, gym selfies, hospital selfies and I-am-in-bed selfies, narcissistic social media addicts have come up with another new kind of selfie. My question is, what is now left to selfi-fy next? This is nothing but another act of self-focus and screaming for attention,” says amateur photographer Rohan Gupta.
For IT professional Ishaan Gupta, the suitfie conveys a strategic combination of ego and charm. He adds, “The trend is gratifying as it shows that focus has finally shifted (even though it may be for a while) from the duck faces, night-out selfies and ‘I’m-in-a-bikini’ selfies of the ladies to our friends from Mars. It conveys a strategic combination of ego and charm. The trend is a win-win situation for all. It makes for perfect eyecandy for women and at the same time, boosts the confidence in men.”
