Andhra Pradesh cops were to get spy tool demo

Hyderabad: Two e-mails with the subject “India trip” and “Revised Invitation letter” between officials of Hacking Team and the CEO of Ortus Consulting, Mr Prabhakar Kasu, that was leaked by WikiLeaks, suggest that two meetings were scheduled on July 7 afternoon and July 8 morning to demonstrate cellular interception hardware to AP police. Mr Prabhakar, who was in the US, was expected to reach Hyderabad at 6 am on July 6, while the Hacking Team officials were to reach at 10 pm, the emails indicated.

Mr Prabhakar had suggested four hotels, ITC Kakatiya, Park Hotel, Park Hyatt, and Taj Krishna, as the meeting venues. These conversations took place between June 22 and July 2.

However, the emails do not say if the meeting took place as per their schedule. In a conversation on June 22, Hacking Team representative, Mr Daniel Maglietta, based in Singapore, writes, “Hi Prabhakar, I am afraid the flights only leave at evening so we will have to leave on Monday evening and reach at around 10 pm. It would be great if you could organise the demos on July 7 afternoon and July 8 morning/afternoon. Do you think you can organise them? In order to apply for the visa we will still be needing the invitation letter for a multiple-entry visa. Could you arrange these?”

Replying to the mail, Mr Prabhakar asked them to come to Hyderabad by July 6 and stay till July 9 evening.

In the second email with the subject as “Revised Invitation letter” on July 2, Mr Daniel wrote to Mr Prabhakar stating that he had applied for the visa and was waiting. He also enquired if the hotel had been booked. “Just wanted to confirm that yesterday we applied for the visa. Also wanted to confirm the travel arrangements, we will be traveling from Singapore to Hyderabad on July 6 and will be returning on the 8 at 11 pm,” the mail stated.
