LucknowKripal Singh, a key witness in the sexual assault case against godman Asaram Bapu, who was shot at on Friday night by unidentified assailants, died late on Saturday night in a hospital in Bareilly.
 
Kripal Singh, 35, was shot at by two motorcycle-borne persons in Puwayan area in Shahjahanpur when he was on his way home from the market on Friday night. He had sustained serious bullet injuries and was rushed from Shahjahanpur to a Bareilly hospital where he succumbed to the injuries around midnight on Saturday.
 
In a statement given to additional city magistrate before his death, Kripal Singh had alleged that people connected to Asaram were threatening him for the last few days. He said that after he was shot, the assailants warned him. He  used to work in a   firm, whose owner’s daughter had lodged a case against Asaram.
