THIRUVANANTHPAURAM: Nearly two months have passed since the Local Fund Audit Department recommended a detailed probe by chief technical examiner into the expenses on mega sports infrastructure projects associated with the 35th National Games, but the government is yet to ask the CTE to start the probe.

After more than two-month-long special audit entrusted by the Cabinet, the LFAD submitted a 425-page report along with the recommendation for a probe by the CTE into the irregularities in the construction – civil and electrical works, and quality of the works associated with the project. A special book was also prepared by the LFAD to help figure out the matters that require CTE examination.

“We have not received any intimation or instruction from the government for investigating the National Games works. We have only heard that the LFAD has recommended a detailed evaluation by us,” said a senior official at the Chief Technical Examiner’s office.  Sources said several irregularities and discrepancies have been detected during the preliminary auditing exercise.

These needed to be probed further. Issues like quality of work, defects in the buildings, ceilings, rainwater harvesting methods, drainage system and electrical fittings and floors.
