Thiruvananthapuram: Hundreds of Congress workers took out a march and staged a dharna in front of the corporation office on Monday to protest against the alleged corruption in the  civic body ruled by the LDF.

The police prevented the protesters from entering the office premises. KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran, who inaugurated the dharna, said the city did not need such  administration which was shifting its responsibilities to the state government.  “Waste management is the primary responsibility of any local body and the civic body here is evading it,”  he said.

He flayed the ruling front for blindly opposing the initiatives  taken by the government for the citizens’ welfare.  “The LDF is challenging the common man by prioritising its political interest,” he said.

The corruption allegations raised by former mayor and CPM MLA V. Sivankutty could not be ignored, he said and added that there should be a thorough investigation into every corruption charge raised in the past four years.  The citizens were disappointed by the performance of the  CPM, which has been  ruling the corporation for the past 35 years, he  said.
