Coimbatore: The MLA of Sulur constituency, Dinakaran has petitioned the district collect Archana Patnaik against the illegal usage of government funds to construct a road over a tributary. In Somanur of Ramachiampalayam a tributary has been occupied by a group of people who are constructing a road being laid for the use of a private firm and it is government funded, alleged the MLA.
“A couple of years back, due to heavy rain, there was a flood in the nearby villages. After that between 2008 and 2009, Rs 18 lakh was invested for the desilting of the tributary. Later it was occupied for road laying purpose, which is on till date,” he claims.
However, the board near the construction site says that the road is from Balaji Hospital to Manavala Kalai Mandram and the investment cost is Rs 30 lakh. “The name mentioned on the board is actually 200 metres east from this area. And, it makes no sense to lay the road here,” he added.
The MLA along with the residents of the area alleged misuse of government funds because they are carrying out the development work themselves. They also asked the district collector to take action against those who have given order to continue this work.
