Thusharagiri set for International Kayaking Championship

Kozhikode: Thusharagiri, the main tourist spot of the Malabar region, is all set to welcome the third edition of the International Kayaking championship organized in connection with the Malabar River Festival. Participants from around 20 countries have started flocking to the tourism spot for the international championship.

The championship between July 22 and July  26 has been organized by the  District Tourism Promotion Council in joint collaboration with Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society, State Kayaking Academy and Madras Fun tools, and has been billed as ‘Asia’s biggest whitewater competition’. Two other spots identified for whitewater kayaking are Chalipuzhya in Kodencherry panchayath and Iruvanjhipuza.

Two time Adiédas Sickline World champion Joe Morley from UK, three-time world champion Sam Sutton from New Zealand, Kayaking Olympian Mike Dawson and World Cup Slalom Champion — Max Benetton from Italy will be among the 40 international and national Kayakers for the competition. Kayakers have started training sessions for the five different competition categories at Thusharagiri and Iruvanjhipuza.
