THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has  said that the state government would soon kick off the work of the light metro projects in  Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. Inaugurating the Thakaraparambu flyover constructed as part of the City Road Improvement Project (CRIP), Mr Chandy said that development and care are the  government’s top priority.

The UDF government had made the  Vizhinjam project  a reality for which the public had no hope till it took over, he said.

The project would be implemented on a war-footing, he said and added that public support was crucial for all development activities undertaken by the government.

Proper rehabilitation would be given to traders who had to sacrifice their business to facilitate the work of the flyover.

Fund crunch was  not an excuse for delaying development activities, he said.  The  additional cess imposed on fuel would be used for road development and housing scheme for the lower strata of the society.

Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar, PWD Minister  V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, Trida chairman P.K. Venugopal  and panchayat president Ansajitha Rasal  were present at the  inaugural function.

Mr Sivakumar said that Trida would soon kick off the work of the bus terminal-cum- shopping complex being planned on the  Attakulangara Central School land.

The government would ensure all protection for the century-old school. The  Thakaraparambu flyover was constructed at a cost of Rs 37 crore and is 410 metres long. The work of the bridge was launched in 2012.

Clearing the  bottlenecks at SP Fort Hospial – Enchakkal stretch and Sreekanteswaram Park to Upplamoodu is crucial to get the full benefit of the flyover.
