Anantapur: Fake pattadar passbook scam has reportedly spread to all parts of AP, including the new capital zone and also in Telangana districts after illicit realtors and land grabbers planned to occupy valuable lands.
Shockingly, the passbook scandal had connectivity with a printing press at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu from where huge number of passbooks were being printed and supplied to gangs in various parts of the state.
A special team of Dharmavaram police had seized Gokul Printing Press at Sivakasi and sent a requisition letter to the magistrate of Sivakasi court to cancel licence for the printing press.
"Our team members are still in Tamil Nadu, hunting for the printing press manager and assistants," Dharmavaram rural circle inspector S. Murali Krishna told this newspaper. Gokul printing press, owned by Sreenivasan, was leased to Rajkumar who colluded with the Anantapur gang and printed fake passbooks in bulk.
Special teams have been constituted at all constituencies and controversial mandals. Police sources revealed the fake passboo-ks were used to draw drip irrigation material under subsidised programme and also for fake registrations to encroach upon lands of ex-servicemen.
The state government is offering subsidy on drip irrigation for drought hit farmers. But the fake passbooks were used in the programme to draw subsidy amount without installing drip system at fields. The fake pattadar passbooks were also used by land grabbers posing as realtors to acquire lands from innocent people and also disputed lands.
"We received information of usage of fake passbooks in the newly proposed capital area and also in Guntur and Nellore districts," an official disclosed and added that the police department was sharing needy information about way of creation of fake passbooks by forging signatures of officials at all levels, with the officials of all other districts.
