BENGALURU: Cheated of his land and money, a real estate developer allegedly attempted suicide after he consumed poison in front of Vidhana Soudha West Gate on Wednesday afternoon in Vidhan Soudha Security police station limits. He was rushed to Bowring Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Putteswamy Gowda (35), a native of Mandya. He had come to Vidhana Soudha around 1 pm to meet ministers to submit a petition. He requested the security guard to let him meet the ministers, but was denied permission. After a few minutes, Gowda took out a pesticide bottle, which he was carrying in a bag, and consumed it in front of the West Gate, following which he collapsed.

The police officials on duty noticed him lying on the ground and rushed to check. They also found a pesticide bottle lying next to him. They immediately rushed him to Bowring hospital.

In his statement to the police, Gowda said that he had invested money in a large tract of land in Mysuru, along with some friends, but soon realised that he was being cheated by them.

The victim had also approached the Mysuru police in this connection and lodged a complaint, said the police. “The police are probing the cheating case as alleged by Gowda. We have informed the family members and necessary action will be taken,” said DCP (Central) Sandeep Patil.
