Ballari Congress MLA Anil Lad in CBI custody till Monday
Ballari MLA’s bail plea on health grounds was turned down by the court
BENGALURU: Ballari City Congress MLA Anil H. Lad, who was arrested by the CBI officials on Wednesday in connection with the export of illicit iron ore from Belekeri port in Karwar, has been remanded in the CBI custody till Monday.
He was produced before the designated CBI court in the City Civil Court Complex on Thursday morning. As the CBI officials requested the judge that they would need time to question him in connection with the case, the judge considered their request and granted his custody till July 20.
Meanwhile, senior advocate C V Nagesh submitted the bail petition on behalf of Lad and requested the court to grant him bail on health grounds. However, the judge turned down the request and adjourned the hearing till Monday.
Earlier in the day, the CBI officials took Lad to Bowring Hospital for medical check up, before he was brought to the court.
Lad, the owner of VSL Mining Pvt Ltd, has been accused of illegally exporting more than 51,000 metric tons of iron ore from Belekeri port. He was arrested by the CBI officials on Wednesday evening, when he had gone to the CBI office as they had issued him a notice and did not produce documents for the transactions.
