This time, however, tech-savvy kids are demanding smartphones, pen-drives and Play Stations.

Hyderabad: With the 30-day Ramzan fast about to end, there is excitement in the air, especially among those waiting to receive their Idi — a gift given by parents to their children and also to friends’ and neighbours’ children as part of Id-ul-Fitr celebration.

But due to changing times, Idi this year has a hi-tech connotation and parents have been surfing online to check out the best offers for gadgets for their children. Rehana Merchant said, “My daughter is now going to college and as teenagers are very conscious these days, she has been asking for a smartphone. For this reason, the grandparents and maternal uncles have come together and pooled money to gift her the latest smartphone.”

Idi is all about familial bonds and growing-up memories. Hence even a gift of Rs 10 has a strong emotional attachment.

With changing times, the demands of children are also changing and parents find that it is best to give what is needed.
