New Delhi/Islamabad: In the wake of unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops on the border in J&K, India issued a stern warning to its neighbour that while it “remained committed to steps that contribute to ensuring peace and tranquillity on the border”, “there should be no doubt that any unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side would meet with an effective and forceful response from our forces”.

New Delhi said it hoped for a return to peace and tranquillity on the border. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempt at Ufa to break the ice with Pakistan receiving a severe setback, India also rubbished Pakistani allegations that an Indian drone had been shot down by it, saying that photographs suggested that “it is not of Indian design”.
