Rajahmundry: Pilgrims coming from faraway places faced great hardships as they lacked adequate information and guidance regarding the whereabouts of the ghats. They wandered around aimlessly for want of voluntary guidance or information via the public address system.
No vehicle is allowed to take them to the nearest bus stations or station. As a result they have to walk long distances. “I got down from the train this morning. The rush is very low in Gow-thami ghat. My father is very old man. I requested them to allow them without standing in the queue. But, the police did not allow us,” said S. Nagaraju of Anantapur by showing his tired legs. Besides walking all the way carrying heavy luggage, every person has a harrowing tale of misery.
No one is exempt including pregnant women senior citizens and small children. The police also are not able to guide them as they have other duties. The police officials who are supervising ghats and other crowded places are reluctant to give any information due to their busy schedule.
The police officials say that the restrictions ha-ve been increased in the aftermath of tragic incident on first day of pushkaralu. The pilgrims are facing great hardships, when VIPs arrive at ghats or ministers visit the city as police beef up security arrangements.
The pilgrims requested the officials to allow vehicles to the nearest ghats which are far from the railway and bus stations.
