19-year-old Delhi girl stabbed 35 times, dies
Victim’s neighbour claimed that she had complained against the accused brothers for eve-teasing in 2013
New Delhi: A 19-year-old girl was stabbed to death allegedly by two brothers after she protested their verbally abusing her in Anand Parbat area in central Delhi.
The incident took place on Thursday, when the girl, identified as Minakshi, was returning home from a market.
After being attacked, she later ran to her house and her mother came out to rescue her, when the mother was also stabbed in the back by them, police said.
While the main accused Jai Prakash was arrested on Friday, his brother Ajay has been detained. The role of the duo's mother into the incident, who was present while the girl was stabbed, is also being investigated, police said.
The girl was returning from the market to her home at Punjabi Basti in Anand Vihar area late on Thursday evening, when the duo stopped her in the way and started verbally abusing her. She objected to the abusive language used by them at which the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed her 35 times, a senior police officer said.
After the incident, Minakshi was taken to the RML Hospital in a serious condition, where she succumbed to her injuries at night, he said.
After her death at the hospital, an FIR has been lodged at the Anand Parbat Police Station under sections 302 and 324 of IPC, the officer said.
Sensing gravity of the case, several police teams were formed and the accused Jai Prakash was arrested today, he said.
A neighbour of the victim claimed that Minakshi had complained against the accused brothers for eve-teasing in 2013.
The families of the victim and the accused reside in the same locality and are neighbours. Their relations had been strained and they were not on talking terms. They often indulged in fighting with each other over petty issues, police said, adding the case is being investigated.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the incident as "shocking" and took a jibe at Delhi Police and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over law and order situation in the national capital.
"This is shocking. Delhi police directly under PM. PM shud spare a few hrs every week to assess capital's law n order position," he tweeted.
