THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ending the stalemate in overseas recruitment of nurses to Gulf countries, NORKA- Roots has started  the process  through the new e-Migrate system.
Permission has already been  received for recruitment of 49 nurses to Aster DM Healthcare in the UAE and the demand letters for nurses are also in the pipeline.

NORKA-Roots sources said that the selection process of nurses had already begun. Though a data bank of nurses had been  already created, NORKA-Roots will invite fresh applications for each round of recruitment to avoid allegations. The selection will be made by representatives of the foreign employer.

The  recruitment of nurses from Kerala to Gulf countries had come to a standstill since May 31 after the new recruitment system came into effect.

The new system mandated that the recruitment could be made only by three government agencies.  The  foreign employer should place the demand for nurses on Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry's e-Migrate portal and emigration clearance from Protector of Emigrants should be obtained.

Massive cheating in nursing recruitment had prompted the centre to bring in these regulations.

However, reluctance of foreign employers to register  on e-Migrate portal as well as to provide details of their firms had brought the nursing recruitment to a standstill.

Many nurses who had obtained visas before the new system came into effect are also unable to go now.

Though the chief minister had  urged the centre to give relaxations to such candidates, the centre has not relented.
