Bengaluru: Opposition legislators who are members of the select committee on BBMP trifurcation have given a dissent note opposing the Congress government’s ambitious trifurcation bill which was referred to the select committee of the Legislative Council following the opposition’s demand.

Earlier, former Chief Secretary B.S.Patil had submitted a report recommending the constitution of five city corporations and Greater Bengaluru Corporation to oversee their functioning. The seven members of the committee from the BJP and JD(S) sense that the select committee chairman will submit his report to the House after taking into consideration the B.S. Patil report.

These opposition members submitted their dissent note to the Council secretary on Friday in the absence of the committee chairman and floor leader S.R. Patil. Interestingly, the dissent note has been submitted to the Council secretary before Mr S.R. Patil submits his findings to the House. In the 12-member select panel, 5 are BJP members and two are from the JD(S).

“On Monday, we will submit our report to the Council chairman requesting him not to take up the trifurcation bill pertaining to BBMP”, said committee member Ashwathnarayana.

The three-month tenure of the select committee is slated to end on July 19 and so the opposition members submitted their dissent note on Friday itself. Committee Chairman S.R. Patil did not turn up in the Council on Friday.
