Apollo Hospital arranges feast for those assisting patients

Hospital canteen witnessed meeting of 14 nationalities and 105 people feasting together

Chennai: A private hospital on Greams Road here arranged a feast for those aiding patients on Saturday, Ramzan. They hailed from countries such as Oman, Saudi-Arabia, Palestine, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Maldives.

On the eve of Id-ul-Fitr, the Apollo Hospital canteen not only just witnessed 105 believers having feast together, it was moreover the meeting of minds of 14 nationalities. “I used to celebrate this holy festival in a similar manner back in my hometown for the past years, but this time it was the most unforgettable and unique experience of my life as I had the privilege to dine with citizens of different countries and share knowledge about their food habits and local dishes,” said Shafeequl Islam, a professor from Bangladesh who is assisting his friend who has been hospitalised.

Most of them who hailed from Arab countries spoke high of the local ‘Thalapakkattu biriyani’ and relished the seafood, adding that the high spices and flavor content in the non-vegetarian delicacies was an entirely new experience. “Back in my hometown we do have the same rice items, but not served so spicy,” said Khalil Altaj, a Palestinian doctor, who is aiding his uncle or the past one month.
