Hyderabad: May JNTU-H affiliated private engineering colleges have hiked their management quota seat prices after the Hyderabad HC ordered re-inspections of disaffiliated courses.
The rate for management quota seats were between Rs 2 and Rs 5 lakh. But prices are quoting between Rs 5 and Rs 10 lakh now. Parents who ‘booked’ seats in disaffiliated colleges are now worried as they fear that they might get stuck if the seats they bought are disaffiliated. The demand for management quota seats have been fluctuating since June with reports of several colleges being disaffiliated.
The Hyderabad HC ordered re-inspections in nearly 55 private engineering colleges. Their fate will be known only next month. However, thinking that these courses are not likely to get affiliated colleges with affiliated courses have jacked up prices. Seats which sold for as low as Rs 2 lakh last year have touched Rs 10 lakh now.
Interestingly, Mechanical and Electrical and Electronics seats are selling at higher prices. Management quota seats in the two branches (already affiliated) add up to just about 4,000 in the state. CS and EC seats are selling big only in premier colleges as their numbers are high. Last year, 23,000 students were admitted under management quota. This year only 25,000 affiliated seats are available in the management quota.
