BJP firm, there will be no resignation

After meeting BJP president, Ms Raje also held a separate meeting with Mr Jaitley

New Delhi: Earlier during the day, BJP president Amit Shah held a meeting with several Union ministers, including Arun Jaitley, Ms Swaraj, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Piyush Goyal and Smriti Irani. Mr Raje was also present at the meeting to give her side on the “Lalitgate” episode.

This meeting comes a day ahead of the BJP parliamentary party executive meeting, and NDA leaders’ meeting with the Prime Minister. Due to bad weather, Mr Chouhan reached late on Sunday evening and is due to meet Mr Shah either late Sunday night or Monday morning.

After the meeting with the BJP president, Ms Raje also held a separate meeting with Mr Jaitley at the latter’s residence. Mr Shah, Mr Jaitley, Ms Swaraj and home minister Rajnath Singh also held a meeting with the PM later. Union ministers, including Rajnath Singh, Ms Swaraj, MoS parliamentary affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi met the PM again later in the evening. There will be no resignations, it was decided, said sources.

Mounting an offensive on the Modi government, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said demanded a ‘minimum action’ which is taking action against the tainted leaders.

Hoping that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce resignation of the ministers, Mr Azad indicated that the Opposition will also target HRD minister Smriti Irani, who is facing charges related to an educational certificate.
