Ramanathapuram: Two Sri Lankan Tamil refugees were among five persons detained after police seized a satellite phone, GPS equipment and cyanide from their car during a vehicle check in the district on monday.
Police said a team on routine vehicle screening found the satellite phone, four GPS equipment, 75 small containers for cyanide, and 300 grams of cyanide from the car in which the five persons were travelling at Uchipulli.
Two of them were identified as Sri Lankan refugees and the others as locals and they were being questioned, police added.
Cyanide capsules were used by LTTE cadres at the height of the civil war in Sri Lanka to kill themselves in case of capture by security forces both in their country and outside.
