After Lieutenant Governor, Centre’s police under AK attack
Bassi says there are 500 stabbing cases; Show it to your boss PM: Arvind Kejriwal
New Delhi: The meeting between Delhi police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday turned fiery as both sides hardened their positions on the incident of the death of a 19-year-old, who was stabbed 32 times.
Home minister Satyendra Jain, who was present in the meeting, said Mr Bassi gave a list of 500 similar cases urging the government to offer Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the family of each such victim as it did in this particular case.
“Mr Kejriwal asked Mr Bassi to take the list to his boss, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Bassi replied saying that the PM was too much preoccupied with other work and had no time for the Delhi police,” Mr Jain said.
However, after the meeting, Mr Bassi said, “I had a cordial meeting and we shared our thoughts.” Earlier in the day, Mr Bassi conducted a law and order meeting with Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, prior to which he said, “The police is always accountable towards the system, and not to any individual. We are answerable to the government, and to Parliament.”
