Term in Bengaluru jail affected Jaya’s health?
It is being said that her time in jail took a toll on her health
BENGALURU: While there are a lot of questions over the health condition of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, there are been doubts whether the AIADMK supremo’s health deteriorated during her 22-day stay at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison here.
Ms Jayalalithaa, convicted by a special court in a disproportionate assets case, was sent to jail on September 27, 2014 and was released on October 18 after the Supreme Court granted her bail. It is being said that her time in jail took a toll on her health.
The jail authorities, however, said that Ms Jayalalithaa was fine during her stay in the prison. “She was normal and she never complained of any health problems. Doctors from the prison hospital checked her everyday. As she was suffering from blood pressure and diabetes, her personal doctor Shantharam also visited her two to three times and checked her health. She took the medicines prescribed by the doctors,” an official, who was deputed to take care of her, told Deccan Chronicle.
“She also followed a strict diet and never complained about the facilities at the prison. The doctors too had said it was not necessary to shift her to any hospital as she was doing well. We have learnt through the media that she is not keeping well now. But there is no connection with her time at the central prison and her ill health now,” the official said.
