It is the third day of shooting of a new serial at Edakkattuvayal, a village in Ernakulam. The location is a local market. Yesteryear actress Geetha, who does the lead role in the serial, is busy acting out a scene where she slaps one man who teases her two daughters in the market. The actor in her hasn’t changed at all. Expressions flickering in her eyes will definitely remind the spectators of many bold and beautiful characters she has done in the past.

Geetha will appear in the role of Susannamma in P.C. Vengugopal-directed serial Sthreethvam. The story is by Saji Lukose, script by Saji Nilambur and the serial is produced under the banner of Konil media.

“It is a mega serial. Susannamma is a bold, adamant and emotionally attached woman. How she raises her two daughters all by herself is the highlight of this serial,” says Geetha, who looks elegant in her simple sari. She had done a small time serial American Ammayi earlier. She has also done a few hit soaps in Tamil.

The new serial happened quite by accident, at a time when doing a serial was not even on her mind. “When the production people of the new serial approached me, first of all I was wondering if I should take it up or not. Because I was doing movies in other languages then and mega serials require time. But, I chose the serial as the team assured me freedom,” she says adding that, in her life, everything happens by coincidence.

“For say, after marriage there was a break for few years. I didn’t take that on purpose. After the break, when it was time to restart my acting career, right opportunity came at the right time,” she says, “I am lucky that I have a husband who is very supportive in my career. I have a son who is very handsome and talented,” she giggles.

Geetha hasn’t forgotten the love and warmth Malayalis had given her for her performance in movies such as Panchagni, Vaishali, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Abhimanyu. And she says that she loves doing challenging roles.

“Whether it is small or big, I have done only challenging roles in Malayalam. While I was doing Panchangni, I did not have much idea about Mollywood. I did what the director asked me to. Only after that I actually started acting. During that time all Malayalam movies were story based. Now, only fantasy and masala movies are happening. I am looking forward to working in movies in the future too. If an important role comes, I will do it. In fact, I want to continue acting till my death,” she sums up.
