Hyderabad: Over 1.50 crore voters of the total 6.47 crore electorate in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh face the prospect of their names being deleted from the voters list.
Verification by the election authorities revealed that 72.48 lakh voters in TS and AP have shifted their residence, but have not informed if they have registered their names in other constituencies.
Another 70.41 lakh voters in both the states were not found at home as their doors were found locked when officials visited. Over 7.59 lakh voters are dead, but their names still exist on voters list in TS and AP.
Over 30.31 lakh voters did not obtain Aadhaar cards at all. Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mr Anoop Singh told this newspaper that over 7.17 lakh duplicate voters and another 1.15 lakh voters were also found to be ineligible as their age is less than 18 years as per Aadhaar card while their names exist on rolls.
“We do not want names of any genuine voter to be removed. If doors are locked or residence shifted, three notices will be issued. Each notice will give seven day’s time to respond, after which the poll authorities can remove their names,” a senior official said.
