HyderabadThe AP State Minorities Commission on Tuesday took up action based on the reports in these columns about Farah, the 11-year-old girl rescued from bonded domestic work. She had been sent to the girls’ home at Nimboliadda after being rescued.

“The commission has taken suo motu action based on the report about the inaction of authorities with respect to the lodging of a case against the culprits. We have issued notices to the principal secretary, women and child development department, and the labour department. We have taken permission to visit the home along with a doctor and we will record Farah’s statement,” said APSMC chairman Abid Rasool Khan.

The commission contacted the DCP West Zone, who assured that a case would be lodged and action initiated. The AP Balala Hakkula Sangham approached the Lokayukta and filed a petition regarding the ill treatment of girls at the rescue home, and about the two cobras being found at the Nimboliadda home. “We condemn the cruel third degree kind punishments and making the kids work. We also condemn the fact that the authorities have not taken any measures to send the kids back to their natural parents,” said sangham president Anuradha Rao.

The Lokayukta has sent notices to the principal secretaries of women and child development departments of both states and ordered them to submit their report by July 30.
