KochiTension prevailed at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple on Tuesday following  an anonymous bomb threat  claiming that an explosion would take place inside the temple in 24 hours.

Temple CI M.U. Balakrishnan received a  call at 3.40 a.m. after which  security was beefed up.  Top cops, including Thrissur Range IG Suresh Raj Purohith, visited the temple and conducted a high-level meeting.

Initial investigations revealed that the call was made by a man from Qatar. The authorities were not sure whether the call made through Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) was  genuine or a  prank. It is learnt that calls from the same IP address were made to Aluva in the recent days.

The police maintained that all possible security measures had been taken and have begun strict  monitoring of pilgrims. Bomb squads and metal detectors have been installed at  various entrances.

Bomb squads from the city police, rural police and SB CID are present at the location. According to Guruvayur Devaswom,  a meeting with Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala would be held at the end of the month and all the security measures would be discussed.
