Visakhapatnam: AP government seems to have not yet sent the proposals to the union urban development ministry on Vijayawada metro rail project to the Centre.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR), for Vijay-wada metro rail project prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), has been submitted to the state government in April.
The DPR was approved by the AP cabinet last month. Though proposals sent by various other states for the metro rail projects for their respective cities figured in a written reply by urban development ministry, proposal for Vijayawada metro rail didn’t find mention.
In a written reply to a query raised by Vizag MP, K Haribabu along with other MPs, union minister of state for urban development, Babul Supriyo, on Wednesday said that proposals for metro rail projects are considered by the central government under the ambit of national urban transport policy 2006 as and when it is posed by the concerned state government.
The reply said that, so far, the urban development ministry, had received proposals from Tamil Nadu for extension of Chennai Metro, Maharashtra for phase one of Pune metro rail project, Delhi on extension of metro rail to Ballabhgarh in Haryana, from Badli to Siraspur, phase IV, Uttar Pradesh for Lucknow phase 1 A, and from Kerala for Kochi Metro phase I extension. DPR for Vizag metro rail is under preparation byDMRC.
