Gudem (Adilabad): The incomplete inter-district new bridge between Gudem of Adilabad and Rayapatnam of Karimnagar on river Godavari has been causing traffic jams and inconvenience to the thousands of devotees during the Godavari Pushkaralu. The traffic movement was high on the route between Adilabad and Karimnagar. The 50-year-old low level bridge on the Godavari is being used even today as road connectivity between two districts with the new bridge is yet to be completed.
Last date for completion of the bridge was extended thrice but construction work of the bridge has not yet been completed. It has added to the woes of devotees going to Karimnagar, and Dharmapuri passing through that route and coming to Gudem to take a holy dip in the river. Completion of the bridge at least just before the Pushkaralu could have eased the traffic on the bridge.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inspected the construction of the new bridge by stopping his convoy on the old bridge while passing through the route coming to Adilabad district to take part in Haritha Haaram programme recently.
Despite the delay there has not been much progress in the construction of the bridge. Construction of bridge with 28 pillars was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore.
Actually the construction of new bridge was started in 2010-11 and it should have been completed by 2013. The state government extended the time till July, 2014.
Satyanaryana Swamy temple on the Gudem hill was famous and devotees in large numbers came after taking holy dip.
