One dies, four injured in cracker unit blast at Palivela

KOTHAPET: One person died and four got injured in an explosion in an unauthorised crackers manufacturing unit at Palivela in Kothapet mandal in East Godavari district on Wednesday.
The five workers were making crackers, when suddenly the explosion occurred with a booming noise. The five injured were shifted to the government general hospital at Kakinada where Rayi Suresh, 30, of Kothapet died in the evening. Condition of two others is critical, according to doctors. It is learnt that the blast took place when the workers were handling explosive material.
According to locals, the explosion was heard within a radius of five kms. Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa and superintendent of police M. Ravi Prakash visited the place and instructed the officials to take steps for rendering medical services to the injured.
Mr Ravi Prakash said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and action would be taken against the owner of the cracker unit and officials for allowing such dangerous activity. The unit is run by Dulam Koteswara Rao, it is learnt. Fire fighters from Kothapet put out the flames.
Patamata Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, 24, Saka Nagaraju, 40, Vasamsetty Sriramulu, 55, and Mavuri Srinu, 30, are the injured. The police registered a case against the cracker making unit owner Koteswara Rao under section 286 IPC/sec 3(4) of Explosives Act.
