Visakhapatnam: After BSNL, another telecom company, Reliance Jio, has come forward to offer WiFi free in select areas of the city on a pilot basis.
The free WiFi will be available at Beach Road and a popular shopping mall within a month. GVMC, which is providing supporting infrastructure, asked the telecom company to extend the free WiFi at a few more places.
It was on July 6 that HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao launched the high-speed WiFi services for the city, a pilot project of the BSNL.
Launching the project from Sunrise Start-Up Village at Madhuravada IT SEZ, the minister said WiFi services would be available through out the city and educational institutions with a speed ranging from 2 mbps to 20 mbps.
The pilot project was launched for RK Beach, Vuda Park and Kailasagiri. The project was a joint venture between Quad Gen and BSNL and the services are being managed by the GVMC.
“Reliance Jio’s free WiFi will be available from next month on the Beach Road and a shopping mall on a pilot basis.”
“When the representatives of Reliance Jio approached seeking support infrastructure, we requested them to extend the free WiFi to some more areas like, Dabagardens, Jagada-mba junction, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation office area and a few more commercial areas where there is floating population,” said the civic body commissioner Pravin Kumar.
