Bengaluru: Tin Factory junction in Bengaluru is a major intersection for vehicles moving towards IT hubs Whitefield and Electronics City and for those heading towards cities such as Chennai, Kolar, Chintamani, Hoskote, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kadappa, Malur, Mulbagal, KGF and Srinivaspur.

Traffic chaos on this junction is increasing by the day and motorists have a tough time negotiating this stretch. There is also a lack of even basic facilities such as bus shelter for the people going towards Kolar and other towns.

For a long time citizens have been demanding the government to resolve the traffic issues here, but nothing has been done. Hence, now a few concerned citizens have started an online petition, which has already garnered over 3,500 supporters.

Regarding this issue Sanjeev V. Dyamannavar, member of Praja RAAG, an advocacy group said, “We want the authority to make commuter rail available by developing the Hoodi halt station and improving the traffic signals. We are hoping they will build skywalks wherever necessary. Also provide us with a pothole free road and multi-level parking facility to decongest the road. They should make it like a Central Business District area within Whitefield. Besides, we need a bigger bus stand. In the entire Whitefield area, we do not have a single big bus stand. These measures to a certain extent will ensure smooth flow of traffic.”

He further added, “We need investment and this should be done on a war footing. The authorities should not again involve in lengthy process of doing a detailed project report (DPR) tender. These things are doable, all they need is a will to do it.”

The petition highlights that fact that even though this problem exists for nearly a decade, no concrete solution has been provided by the authorities. The concerned citizens have urged both the State and Central government to take up this issue on priority basis.
