Karnataka: 2-day special session to discuss Lokayukta Bill likely

Bengaluru: A joint session of the state legislature is likely to be convened on July 30 and 31 to discuss the Karnataka Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa told Deccan Chronicle that he had told the minister concerned not to hurry the bill through without a detailed debate. Since, the amendments proposed by the government looks like weakening the anti-body corruption body, the BJP had suggested that the government call a two-day session next week for a threadbare discussion on the subject.

“Certain amendments proposed by the government are going to defeat the very purpose of establishing the Lokayukta institution in 1984. Hence, we are asking for a two-day session next week.”

Mr Eshwarappa said the minister has promised to have a discussion with Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa and request him to convene the joint Business Advisory Committee to finalise it.
