Puthuvypeen terminal: MULT to be ready in 2 years
The terminal is expected to import 6 lakh tons of LPG annually in the initial stage
Kochi: The multi-user liquid terminal (MULT) which will help oil marketing companies Indian oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to import liquid petroleum gas will be completed in 24 months, the Cochin Port Trust (CPT) said on Thursday .
CPT said it awarded the Rs 217.33 crore work of construction of the terminal at Puthuvypeen to RKEC Projects Private Limited on Thursday.
Once operational, the terminal will help the oil marketing companies do away with the present method of import through Mangalore port and supply to various destinations in Kerala by long road haulage.
The terminal is expected to import 6 lakh tons of LPG annually in the initial stage. In addition to LPG, the terminal will be used to handle bunkers and other liquids.
The work consists of the construction of a terminal having a 230 meters long berth for handling LPG and petroleum products for '182.76 crore and a barge berth for handling bunkers for Rs 34.57 crore.
