Seniors ask juniors to buy liquor, get hit with helmet

Chennai: Two students of a city college, including a minor boy, were arrested following a violent incident in which one was injured during a standoff between seniors and juniors after freshers were told to buy liquor for third year students of Sir Thygaraya College in Washermenpet on Thursday.
One of the arrested students was identified as Mari, 20, third year B.A Economics student, who reportedly kept pestering juniors for alcohol since the college reopened last month. On Wednesday, Mari,who was chased away from the class by the first year student, called his friend Stephen, who studies in the same college and informed him about the incident. When Stephen came alone to the same class to scold the juniors, one of the freshers hit him with a helmet.
Stephen sustained injuries and was admitted to Government Stanley Hospital. Following the incident, the college declared holiday on Wednesday. The police arrested the first year student based on a complaint from Stephen. The arrested student was lodged in the juvenile home. Mari was arrested based on a complaint from a first year student. The college resumed classes on Thursday.
