Chennai:The opposition DMK on Friday released a panel of party functionaries to head the state election monitoring committee ahead of next year polls and also filed a petition to Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena seeking action against officials for deleting the names of DMK men from voters roll.

DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi and DML legal wing secretary R. Girirajan in a memorandum to the CEO requested him to conduct an enquiry on the issue of deliberate deletion of voters and inclusion of new voters without proper enquiry and also take action against officials responsible.

Deletion of  nearly 15,000 to 20,000 voters in every constituency had been  done and there was  a need for enquiry, the petition said. Earlier in the day, a statement from the DMK headquarters listed 17 names, most of them advocates, to look into issues pertaining to electoral rolls at every booth level.
