Supreme Court to hear Yakub Memon’s plea on Monday

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on July 27 a writ petition filed by the 1993 Mumbai blast case convict Yakub Memon, seeking stay of his execution scheduled for July 30.

A three-judge Bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justices Arun Mishra and Amitav Roy fixed the date of hearing of the petition on a mention made by senior counsel Raju Ramachandran seeking urgent listing of the matter.

In his petition Yakub said the order of death warrant dated 30.4.2015 issued by the presiding officer, designated court under Tada, was issued without following the due procedure. Similarly the Maharashtra government issued an order on July 13 for his execution, conveyed through a communication.
