Hyderabad: Thirty four children who were working as labourers were rescued by Musheerabad cops and the labour department on Friday under Operation Muskaan. Three children under the age of 14 were sent to the rescue home in Kukatpally, while the others were handed over to their parents after counselling.

“The kids were working in inhuman conditions at sweet shops and cloth stores. We have checked up the kids’ backgrounds and found that they were forced to work due to extreme poverty in their families. We have called the parents and have counselled them,” said Musheerabad inspector B. Mohan Kumar.

The joint team of the police and labour officials raided Ramnagar, Dayaram Market and Gemini colony under Musheerabad police station.

“Three cases have been booked against employers and three of them are now absconding,” said Mr Mohan Kumar.
