Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP seeks Rs 3 crore for 50 CCTVs in towns, suburbs
Rs 3 crore: proposal sent to install CCTVs in 10 towns and other localities across the district
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to reduce theft and respond faster to mishaps, the Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP has sent a proposal for '3 crore to install CCTVs in 10 towns and other localities across the district.
Money was sought from Road Safety funds to purchase over 50 CCTV cameras for suburbs with highest population density.
They include towns like Kazhakoottam, Attingal, Varkala, Neyyattinkara, Nedumangad and busy pockets like Balaramapu-ram, Parassala, Venjara-moodu and Kattakada.
The rural police has recently installed temporary surveillance cameras at Parassala which last week helped detect a thief who stole 150 bikes over the last few months.
“Rural areas have abundant speed traps on accident-prone stretches of NH-47, MC Road and others. However. there is no real-time monitoring facility available for us. CCTVs will go a long way in reducing the crime and act fast during mishaps,” said SP Shefeen Ahamed.
Several theft cases are being reported from areas like Kattakada, markets in Balaramapuram and Attingal town. Accidents remain high in the pockets like Naruvamoodu and Attingal.
Chain-snatching incidents were often reported from across Venjaramoodu.
“Investment is needed for optical fibre cables, monitors and camera. The proposal has been sent to the collector for funds,” said the SP.
