Karimnagar: The success of Godavari Pushkaralu is to be attributed to three women who toiled hard to ensure every arrangement was in place for the convenience of devotees coming in from not just the state but other states as well. They are collector Neetu Prasad, joint collector Pausumi Basu and DRDA PD Aruna Sri.
Ms Neetu Prasad was transferred to district from East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh in January, when planning for the river festival was in the initial stages. Though, new to the district, she convened review meetings with concerned officials at regular intervals. She ensured that arrangements were completed on time.
From day one, the 2001 batch IAS officer camped in Dharmapuri town, considered the most preferred destination for the mass holy bathing event, for supervising arrangements, sanitation and required facilities. She also travelled to other venues such as Kaleshwaram, Manthani and Kotilingala when required.
Ms Pausumi Basu, the other IAS officer, stayed in the temple town of Kaleshwaram since the beginning of this mega event. She would get up at 4 am every day to inspect ghats and other facilities. She conducted review meeting with concerned officials every day in the evening. She focused on regulation of queues of devotees thronging to the ancient Sri Kaleshwara-Muktheshwa-ra Swamy temple after taking holy dip.
Meanwhile, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project director Arunasri was assigned to take care of Erdandi pushkar ghats of Ibrahim-patnam mandal. She monitored arrangements at this venue. “Unlike employees who discharged duties on shift basis, she was working the round-the-clock,” said an official who closely worked with her.
