Vijayawada Airport sees leap in number of flyers

The number of passengers has been increasing since mid 2014 gradually

VijayawadaWhile the increase in domestic air passengers in the country is just 16 percent, Vijayawada Airport registered a growth of 94.4 percent in the month of June compared to corresponding month last year. 
 
As many as 31,245 passengers commuted through Vijayawada Airport in just one month which is a record, according to the traffic report released by Airports Authority of India on Saturday. The second highest number of passengers was recorded in the month of April with 30,492 passengers commuting through the Vijayawada Airport. 
 
Following the announcement of capital region in Guntur and Krishna districts, Vijayawada Airport, which is the only airport available for four districts, started witnessing an increasing number of people taking flights to commute between the capital region and Hyderabad, New Delhi and other cities. 
 
At least 1,000 passengers are passing thr-ough the airport each day and the number is higher during festival seasons. The number of passengers has been increasing since mid 2014 gradually and in June 2015 it reached a record high. 
 
The occupancy ratio of airliners too increased from between 60 to 65 per cent to 80 to 90 per cent.  “To get a train ticket for air conditioned coach we need to book it a few months earlier and it costs close to that of flight ticket which we can book little later,” said a passenger Mr Sk. Zakir. Meanwhile Vizag registered a growth of 92.1 percent in International passengers with a total of 10,056 passengers flying from and to  the airport.
