Two killed in different road accidents in Chennai

Chennai: Two persons including a nine-year-old boy were killed in different road accidents in the city on Saturday. In one mishap on the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) road near Vandalur, a nine-year-old boy died after he was run over by a milk tanker. The boy, V. Abishek was riding pillion with his cousin and her friend when he fell off the bike after the rider applied a sudden brake. The incident happened around11.30 am, police said.

Abishek was picked up from his home in Chitlapakkam third main road by his cousin, Kayalvizhi (23). “She told his parents that she would take him to the beach on Sunday and picked him up from his home,” a police officer said. The two of them went to the Tambaram Sanatorium road from where, Kayalvizhi’s friend, Prabhakaran (24) of Kundrathur picked them up in his two-wheeler.

The three of them were on their way towards Vandalur Zoo when they met with the accident. Investigations revealed that Prabhakaran applied sudden brakes to avoid hitting a vehicle ahead of him near Irumbuliyur traffic signal. In the impact, the three of them fell to the ground. While Prabhakaran and Kayalvizhi fell to their left, Abishek fell on the right, police said. A milk tanker tanker trailing them ran over the boy. The three of them were rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared Abishek brought dead. The others escaped with minor injuries, police said.

Chromepet Traffic Investigation wing registered a case and arrested the truck driver V. Subramani (50) of Salem for causing death due to negligent driving. In another incident on the Grand Northern Trunk (GNT) road, a 41-year-old fish vendor died after his bicycle got knocked down by a load van near Puzhal check post.

The victim, Ramanathan, a resident of Pooniammanmedu in Madhavaram was on his way back from a routine fish–buying trip from Kavangarai market when he was killed. Madhavaram traffic investigation wing registered a case and arrested the van driver, Sampath (21).
