Colourful start to Bahuda rath yatra in Ukkunagaram

VisakhapatnamAnnual rathyatra festival of Lord Sri Jagannath is being organised at Sri Jagannath temple complex in Ukkunagaram from July 18 to 28.  
 
On Sunday the Cherra Pahanra ritual-  sweeping of chariot with the golden broom on the occasion of Bahuda yatra was perfomed by the first devotee of Ukkunagaram- RINL CMD P. Madhusudan followed by chariot pulling by the devotees. 
 
Hundreds of devotees pulled the colourfully-decorated chariot. VISTEEL Mahila Samiti honourary president Annapurna Gowri, NALCO designate CMD, TK Chand, Director (Project) P C Mohapatra, general manager (HR)  Debasis Ray, GM(HR) along with their spouses  also participated in the event. 
 
After the pulling, idols were taken into the main temple in a procession amidst conch, mridanga, ghanta and haribol sound. 
 
A troop from Bhubaneswar performed kirtan during the rath yatra. Meanwhile, taking out the idols of Lord Jagan-nath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra in a colourfully decorated chariot, the Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj celebrated Bahuda Yatra (Return Car Festival) on Sunday. The chariot was pulled by devotees with religious fervour and devotion from the Gundicha Temple at Lawsons Bay Colony to the main temple at Dasapalla Hills amidst chants. 
 
After reaching the main temple, the deities were taken to the sanctum sanctorum amidst Bhajan and chanting of Mantra. More than 3,000 devotees partook of the Anna Prasad arranged at the Samaj premises.
 
President of the Samaj SC Choudhury, former commissioner of customs, secretary S. K. Panigrahi and others were present on the occasion.
