Bengaluru: This is one notice which might have left even the unflappable H.D. Kumaraswamy wonder-struck. The former CM has received a notice seeking his explanation before August 14 — not on land denotification or some alleged scam but on why he did not take the advice of self-proclaimed astrologer TDR Harishchandra Gowda. A familiar face to mediapersons in Bengaluru for over two decades, Mr Gowda claimed he had predicted the serial bomb blast which killed one person in Bengaluru city. Sources said the notice has been issued even without verifying whether a prima-facie case could be made out!
It’s no secret that Mr Gowda frequently comes up with letters claiming he had predicted disasters, including the assassinations of former Prime Ministers Mrs Indira Gandhi and Mr Rajiv Gandhi. Claiming that he was an AICC member, the self- styled astrologer had many times written to the Governor of Karnataka, claiming that he had the support of MLAs and should be made chief minister.
On July 8, Mr Gowda approached the Lokayukta and submitted a hand-written complaint, claiming that he had informed the government about a terrorist attack in Bengaluru city.
The Lokayukta registrar, who issued a notice to Mr Kumaraswamy, stated that he was directed by the Lokayukta to issue the notice and seek his response to the letter.
Mr Gowda claims he had first warned then CM Dharam Singh on June 4, 2005 about the blast and Mr Singh had ordered officials to initiate action based on the letter. When Mr Kumaraswamy became CM, Mr Gowda says he sent a copy of the letter written to Mr Dharam Singh but the JD(S) leader ignored it. “Kumaraswamy has a poisonous mentality, he does not like good people coming up in life. I tried to meet him over 10 times, but he did not want to meet me even in Janata Darshans,” Mr Gowda claimed in his letter.
When contacted, Mr Kumaraswamy confirmed that he had received a notice from the Lokayukta on this issue. “They think we have a lot of free time. Since the Lokayukta has issued a notice, I have to give a legal reply through my lawyer.”
