Hyderabad: The Medak administration is busy monitoring toilets and drinking water facilities in schools. Directions have been issued to HMs and teachers in all schools to be present on all days till the committee completes inspections.

“Under Swachh Bharat scheme, 154 toilets had been sanctioned. Besides, the government sanctioned another 897 new toilets. Of them 112 are finished and the rest are under construction. There are another 889 dysfunctional toilets that are now being restored,” said Medak Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Project officer Yasmin Baha, who supervises toilets and drinking water facilities in schools.

There are 1,351 government schools in Medak district. Of them, more than half did not have toilets. The government had decided to construct 897 new toilets and to repair 889 dysfunctional toilets in schools after the SC rapped it in January.

Of the 897 new toilets, 112 had been completed and out of the 889 dysfunctional ones, 463 were repaired. The administration has been taking up works on a war footing after it received info about the SC panel’s visit.
