Visakhapatnam: Protests opposing the state government’s proposal to shift the existing Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam are getting louder with every passing day. On Sunday, the city unit of CPI and Vizag Children’s Club staged protests at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near GVMC.
Speaking on this occasion, CPI state assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy said, “We are strongly opposing the purported move of shifting the zoo. In the guise of botanical gardens, the real estate dealers are eyeing the prime land. By shifting the zoo, there would be a great effect on the ecological balance of the city.”
CPI district secretary A.J. Stalin, D. Markendyulu, Rambabu, Venkata Rao and others were present.
On the other hand, the Forum of Legal Professionals and Social Media Club organised a round-table conference in the Public Library.
Senior advocate and president of Forum of Legal Professionals Kupp-ili Muralidhar said, “The Forum is strongly opposing the proposed shifting and if the government had any ideas to do it, it must be shelved immediately and if not, the For-um would be constrained to move the court.”
Social Media Club state secretary Sun Murthy called upon the general public to raise their voice against the move.
